Hilfield
has long been a place of peace where people of all backgrounds
and traditions are made welcome. The Franciscan way of living
the Gospel appeals to people from different churches and Hilfield,
though an Anglican Friary has become common ground for Christians
who value the simplicity and gentle hospitality found there. St
Francis himself crossed over the boundaries which divided him
from others, calling everyone 'brother' or 'sister' and seeking
in those who in his time were regarded as 'enemies', particularly
Muslims, the face of Jesus Christ.
Today
we welcome people of all religious faiths and of none as our brothers
and sisters. We believe that our common concern for the world
around us, especially for our threatened environment, can lead
to a deeper understanding between us, and that in our desire for
peace and justice we have much to learn from each other. We want
to establish conversation and dialogue between different faith
groups and we gladly provide hospitality and appropriate facilities
for this.
