The Swallow and Swifts have returned again and a Cuckoo has been heard in the woods. We have worked hard through the winter months hedgelaying and preparing the garden for the new season and now it is wonderful to have the longer days and warmer weather. The 10 sheep are making short work of our grass, they have been moved off the orchid field so that the flowers have a chance to establish themselves, they have grown fast during their time here and look as if they would welcome some shearing. So May should be interesting we will learn about shearing, and then the spinning and dyeing of the wool. Soon we hope to add hens to our livestock and we are looking forward to fresh and abundant eggs.
The Kitchen Garden is growing fast, both weeds and vegetables and flowers. Already produce has been sold at local fairs and to passing visitors and those staying with us.
On the whole the weekends have been well received; the challenging and exhausting ‘Eco-Friendly Families Half Term’; ‘Living in a Fragile World’ and a ‘Sense of Place’ have all taken place. This month the weekend looking at the poetry of George Herbert is full, but there is space in June to look at ‘The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos’.
